One. The wall
A straight on photograph in even daylight works best. Include something whose width you know: a door, a sofa, a light switch.
Two. The measurement
Drag across the object you are measuring, then tell us its real width. An internal door is about 91 cm. A three seat sofa is about 210 cm. A single light switch plate is about 8.6 cm.
Three. The work
Add an image of the work and give its real dimensions. Then drag it into position on the wall.
Nothing is uploaded. This runs entirely on your device.
Your photograph is never uploaded, stored or sent to us. It is read by your own browser, drawn on your own screen, and discarded when you close the tab. A private client should not have to send a picture of their home to a dealer in order to look at a painting.
Why the measurement step exists
AB / SCALE
A photograph carries no absolute size. Every preview tool that skips this step draws the work at whatever size looks agreeable in the frame, which is precisely how a collector ends up with a canvas that swamps the room, or a drawing that vanishes above a six foot sideboard.
Marking one object whose real width you know fixes the scale of the whole photograph. After that the work is drawn at its true dimensions, and what you see is what will arrive.
Sizing to the wall
A work, or a group hung as one, generally wants to occupy somewhere between about 57 and 75 percent of the available wall width. Below that it floats; above it the wall stops reading as a wall.
Over furniture
Aim for roughly two thirds the width of the piece below, and leave about 15 to 20 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame so the two read as one group.
Height
Centre the work at about 145 to 155 cm from the floor, the museum convention, which puts it at average eye level. Hang lower where people are seated, as in a dining room.
What only the room can show you
Surface. Impasto, the tooth of the paper, the way varnish holds a light, the exact colour under your own lamps. Those decide whether you live with a work happily, which is why serious buying still ends in a room with the thing itself. We will bring it to you.
