A square Kalamkari style painting: a saffron yellow elephant face with a blue ornamental ear and white tusks, filled with small gold figures of Shri Ganesha Ji, a drummer and attendants, beside a green leaf band.

Ramesh Gorjala · b. 1979

Ganesha and his attendants on saffron

A great saffron face, the eye wide open and the blue ornamental ear lifted like a flame, fills the canvas. Its black contour is the frame for a second picture: a seated Shri Ganesha Ji with a serpent about his waist, a drummer below, a flute playing Shri Ganesha Ji above, attendants with folded hands, all drawn in the finest black line and washed in gold. At the right a green leaf band closes the composition. The face is seen first and from across a room; the company inside it is found only by those who come close.
