The Buddha between flame and cloud

A calm, closed-eyed Buddha, painted in cool greys with a finely modelled head of tight curls, sits at the right in an olive-gold panel. At the left stands a field of flat vermilion red, and at its foot a single flame glows white and gold against black. Above, dark clouds roll across a pale sky, and at the far right a strip of rust and ochre runs down the canvas like a stain. The stillness of the face against the fire and the weather is the whole picture. Signed "Kiran" in script, lower right; the artist's full name is being confirmed.
