Contemporary Indian

Rectangles of blue, from pale turquoise to deep navy, overlap and stack across a canvas that is itself made of three panels. Scraps of rust, orange, ochre and white show through the blues in small, torn-looking passages, and a thin white ring floats at the top of the central panel like a moon or a seal. The surface is partly flat and partly dragged and scumbled, so the grid never settles into a pattern. A large, quiet work in a single colour family.
