Contemporary Indian

Two white cows and a calf, drawn in fine line in the manner of the Pichwai painters, stand and rest against a single field of saturated lapis blue. Each wears gold headgear, necklaces and bells, with small decorative marks on the cheek and forehead, and the calf lies at the lower left looking up at its mother. The cows carry on beyond the right edge of the canvas, so the herd seems to extend past what is shown. The blue is left empty on purpose, and the white and gold read cleanly against it.
