Thread embroidery

A woman is shown from behind in a purple blouse and a deep blue sari, a purple flower set in her black bun, one hand raised to her face and a basket of rust-orange fruit or flowers at her hip. Behind her, dark green walls with carved-stone patterns and a pale green opening. The picture is worked entirely in stitched thread: the long, directional stitches follow the folds of the cloth and give each colour a soft, woven light. It is shown under glass in a cream mount. No signature is visible, and the maker has not yet been established.
