Prakash Bal Joshi, A turquoise river and two gold forms, 2024: gold figures and a gold horizon cross a wide field of turquoise, teal and ultramarine, with plum-violet columns standing at the left and right edges.

Prakash Bal Joshi

A turquoise river and two gold forms, 2024

A wide landscape of water and sky worked almost entirely in turquoise, from pale aquamarine to deep ultramarine. A dark, bristled band of strokes runs low across the centre like a far bank, and a thin gold line dips and rises beneath it. Two small gold forms, one at the upper left and one at the right, move across the field at the edges, while columns of violet and plum hold the left and right margins. Signed with the artist's monogram, lower right, and dated 24. Joshi, who paints a recurring river, spoke in 2024 of five years working almost entirely in blue; this canvas sits inside that long blue period.
