Crimson rain on a lit field, 2015
A tall canvas worked almost entirely in one colour, from deep crimson to the palest rose, with the white ground left to show through in a few lit panels near the top. Long vertical runs of thinned paint fall over a loose grid, so the picture reads at once as architecture and as rain. The darkest, most worked passage sits low in the centre, where the surface breaks into scrubbed and lifted marks. Signed with the artist's monogram, lower right, and dated 15. Joshi came to painting after a long career in journalism and works largely in abstraction; this is an earlier canvas than the 2024 work the house also holds.
