The most open of the four: a kneeling figure whose arms and hair break outward into long, trailing shapes that seem to move across the sheet. The white ground is not a background but part of the figure, and the whole print has the lightness of a gesture. It is one of four framed prints after Matisse's Blue Nudes of 1952, the paper cut-outs he made late in his life from sheets painted with gouache. The printed signature reads H. Matisse 52. This is a print, not the cut-out itself; the edition, its publisher and its authorisation have not yet been established, and the plate is taken from a photograph of the work on the wall.
