Blue Nude, seated, knee drawn up
Framed print after the 1952 paper cut-out
A figure sits upright with one knee drawn high, one arm raised behind the head and the torso stretched long, as if caught mid-turn. The blue is dense and unbroken, and the narrow white gaps between limb and limb carry all the drawing. It is one of four framed prints after Matisse's Blue Nudes of 1952, the paper cut-outs he made late in his life from sheets painted with gouache. The printed signature reads H. Matisse 52. This is a print, not the cut-out itself; the edition, its publisher and its authorisation have not yet been established, and the plate is taken from a photograph of the work on the wall.
